Are you a full-time student? Find out what documents you need to submit to obtain a temporary residence permit in Poland

If you are taking up or continuing full-time: first-cycle studies, second-cycle studies or uniform master's studies or education at a doctoral school, to legalize your stay in Poland, together with the application for a temporary residence permit, you must submit the required documents. By submitting a complete set of documents, your case will be considered more efficiently and you will avoid another visit to the office. Please read the information below on this matter.

Which documents are required?

  • a handwritten signed application for granting a temporary residence permit generated in the inPOL Foreigner Portal and the MOS system;
  • presenting the original of a valid travel document for inspection (passport) and submitting photocopies of all its pages containing stamps, annotations and entries;
  • 4 fotografie undamaged, coloured, with good sharpness, dimensions of 35 mm x 45 mm, taken no earlier than 6 months before the date of submission of the application, presenting the image of the foreigner's face from the top of the head to the top of the shoulders, so that the face occupies 70-80% of the photograph, against a uniform light background, in a frontal position, looking straight ahead with open eyes, not covered by hair, with a natural facial expression and closed mouth, as well as reproducing the natural colour of his skin, clearly presenting the foreigner's eyes, and especially the pupils, the line of the foreigner's eyes is parallel to the upper edge of the photograph;
  • confirmation of payment of the stamp duty for issuing a temporary residence permit (PLN 340 to the account: Taxpayer Service Center, ul. Obozowa 57, 01-161 Warsaw, bank account number 21 1030 1508 0000 0005 5000 0070, title: fee for a temporary residence permit + first and last name of the foreigner).

Documents necessary to obtain a positive decision are also:

  • a current certificate issued by the entity providing the training on admission to studies or on continuing studies, indicating
    name, surname, date and place of birth;
    for citizenship;
    the type, series and number of the identity document and the name of the country that issued it; 
    the name and address of the unit conducting the studies;
    about the start date of studies;
    the period of study for which the foreigner was admitted;
    about the field of study;
    to determine the form of studies;
    about the level of studies;
    for information about tuition fees;
    for information on the language in which the studies are conducted and the level of language proficiency required to complete them;
    information on whether the foreigner is covered by an EU programme or a multilateral programme including mobility measures or an agreement between at least two higher education institutions providing for intra-EU mobility, as well as the name of the programme or agreement and the name and address of the units conducting studies covered by the agreement;
    if the certificate concerns the continuation of studies – information on the implementation of the course of studies to date and the completion of the subjects required by the study program.
  •  current printout of the student's periodic achievement card, referred to in the provisions issued under Article 81 of the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science, or a certified true copy of this card, illustrating the course of the foreigner's education process to date in this unit, if it concerns the continuation of studies;
  •  a current certificate issued by the unit providing education on the amount of tuition fees for the entire current academic year and next semester of the next academic year;
  •  proof of payment of tuition fees indicating the date of payment of the tuition fee or part thereof (in the case of taking up or continuing paid studies);
  •  documents confirming that a foreigner has health insurance within the meaning of the Act of 27 August 2004 on health care benefits financed from public funds or confirmation of coverage by the insurer of the costs of treatment in the territory of the Republic of Poland (e.g. ZUS RCA declaration for the last month together with documents indicating the basis for applying for insurance (e.g. current employment contract, ZUS ZCNA declaration), current entry in the insurance card, insurance policy together with proof of payment of the premium, voluntary health insurance contract together with ZUS DRA declarations and proof of payment of the required monthly premiums);
  •  documents indicating the amount of housing costs containing information on the amount of fixed operating fees, fees for the supply of energy, gas, water to the premises and the collection of sewage, waste and liquid waste (e.g. a lease agreement together with the last bill for gas, electricity and administrative rent or a certificate from the student dormitory on the amount of fees or a statement from the property owner);
  •  documents confirming that the foreigner has sufficient financial resources to cover the costs of living in Poland (i.e. at least PLN 1010 x 15 months = PLN 15150), study costs (tuition fees for the entire current academic year and the next semester), return travel costs to the country of origin or residence (i.e. PLN 200 if the foreigner came from a country neighbouring the Republic of Poland, PLN 500 if he or she came from a European Union Member State other than the one indicated above, PLN 2500 if he or she came from a country that is not a member of the European Union) and housing costs;

Documents that may confirm the possibility of obtaining/possessing the above-mentioned financial resources are:

  • traveller's check;
  • certificate of the credit card limit issued by the bank that issued the credit card;
  • a certificate that the foreigner or the person on whom the foreigner is dependent has funds in a bank or a cooperative savings and credit union with its registered office in the territory of the Republic of Poland or another Member State of the European Union, a Member State of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) - a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation;
  • a document confirming the award of a domestic or foreign scholarship;
  • a certificate of employment and the amount of earnings of the foreigner or the person on whom the foreigner is dependent;
  • in the case of a subsequent application for a temporary residence permit: documents confirming the realisation of the previous purpose of stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland or documents confirming fulfilment of the obligation under Article 113 of the Act on Foreigners, i.e. informing the voivode that the reason for granting the previous permit has ceased to exist.

If you submit the application by post, attach all required documents to the application (signed application, photocopy of all pages of a valid travel document, 4 photographs, confirmation of payment of the stamp duty for issuing a temporary residence permit in the amount of PLN 340).
However, if you want to submit the application in person at one of the 3 locations (ul. Marszałkowska 3/5, pl. Bankowy 3/5, entrance "G", Al. Jerozolimskie 28), bring all documents to the office - required and additional.
